India in charge after day 2 of second Test against WI

India continued to dominate on day 2 of the second Test match against the West Indies at Sabina Park after century maker Kl Rahul’s patient 158 runs ensured the Indians stayed on top with a 162 runs lead. With 5 wicket remaining in the first innings and a score of 357/5 at stumps on day 2, the visitors will be looking to go for the kill on day 3.

The West Indies looked positive at the start of the day with the ball as they were very disciplined and the Indians found runs hard to come. That did not stop Rahul from getting his 3rd century in just his 6th test match, as the tall right hand batsman played with timing and precision to bring up his century before lunch. He and Cheteshwar Pujara frustrated the West Indians bowlers with a mixture of solid defensive strokes and well timed shots on either side if a docile wicket, as India went through the first session without losing a wicket.

In the second session both Rahul and Pujara continued to make batting look easy as they put on 121 for the second wicket. The stand was broken by Roston Chase who brilliantly ran out Pujara for 46 with the Indians well placed at 208/2. Shanon Gabriel was responsible for the wicket of the well set Rahul, who was caught down the leg side by wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich, with the India total at 277/3

Roston Chase had wicket of Virat Kohli (44), who was caught sharply at short leg by Rajendra Chandrika. The Indians were 310/4 at this stage as the West Indies finally had something to smile about.

Devendra Bishoo finally came good with line and length, claiming his first wicket of the match, trapping Ravi Ashwin lbw with the Indians well in control at 327/5.

Although the Caribbean bowlers were disciplined, they did not manage to get any more of the Indians wicket before stumps on day 2. Ajinkya Rahane (42) and Wriddhiman Saha (17) are the two not out batsmen.

India will look to increase their lead on day three, while the Caribbean team will need to find a way to get the next five wickets as quickly and as cheap as possible, as they look to save the test match..
