JAMAICA COLLEGE, EDWIN ALLEN LOOKS TO TAKE LEAD ON DAY TWO

The score board will get ticking on day two of the five day ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships with six finals scheduled for Wednesday.

Jamaica College’s Obrien Wasome will look to secure the Gold in the Class 1 Boys Long Jump final which gets going at 5:50pm. The defending champions led all qualifiers on the opening day with a wind aided 7.74m qualifying mark. That mark was just within touching distance of Leon Gordon’s 23 year old record of 7.87m. He should receive a challenge from teammate Paketo Dudley and Calabar’s Leroy Paige.

That showdown will be preceded by Class Two Boys Long Jump final which is scheduled for 3.05pm. Jamaica College once again is expected to rack up big points through their athlete Safin Wills and take the lead at the end of the days proceedings.

Other finals listed are Class 2 Girls Shot Put final which comes up 5.30pm. Edwin Allen High should grab valuable points with Kimone Reid and Sheika McPherson both making the final 12.The top thrower was event favourite Vere Technical’s Kimone Avery Pryce with a mark of 13.90

The highly anticipated Class One Girl’s Discus final will start at 5.05pm and will feature the inform Shanice Love of Excelsior High. Love is chasing the gold medal, along with former Edwin Allen athlete Tara Sue Barnett’s record of 51.15m in jeopardy.

The girls Steeplechase Open final will be the penultimate event, and should feature an anticipated clash between Edwin Allen’s Teresha Jacob and 2015 silver medalist Hydel’s Moniefa Green.

The Boys equivalent will close the day at 9.30pm.Top contenders that advanced from yesterday’s preliminary were St Jago’s Thaleetio Green, Mavis Bank’s Garfield Gordon, Hydel Teahjmar Burke and Kingston College’s Shane Buchanan.

The girls 200m preliminary is on schedule for today, with notable absentee from the start list, Class Two defending champion – Edwin Allen High’s Shellece Clarke.

The Girls and Boys 800m competitors bow into action today, along with the 400m hurdles open for girls.The sprint relay forms part of day two afternoon session. The multi discipline Boys Decathlon open is also on todays roster.

Action begins at 8.30am and wraps at 9.30pm.
