It was just last year that young Terrique Stennett created some massive damage to the record books in his final year at the JISA Prep Schools Track and Field Championships for Vaz Prep..

He shattered the 100m record of 11.86s set by Taje-Roje Scott of St. Andrew Prep in 2013, when he ran a time of 11.63s in the semi-finals on day 2 of the 3-day meet. He then made a mockery of the 200m record of 24.43s set by Hydel’s Jordan James in 2009 when he blazed to 23.79s in the rain, despite turning to the crowd to celebrate 15 metres from the finish line.

Fast forward to 2016 and he is now at the high school of his choice, Kingston College and into his debut year of upcoming ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championship and already his eyes are glued on the Boys 100m Class 3 record.

Stennett told Yardie Sports at last weekend’s staging of the Gibson/McCook relays, where he helped his Class Four team to the 4x100m title, he expressed his delight at being a part of a strong Kingston College unit.

“I am happy to be on this team. I can tell you there is no other team in our league and Class Three will be KC’s turf in 2016”.

When asked about his goals heading into the upcoming championship, he was careful to point out that the 100m record is the focus.

“I am aiming for the 100m record for Class Three. I hope I will be able to get it. Right now I am working on a little injury and I know once am over that, I can challenge the record”.

The Class Three 100m record currently stands at 10.85 seconds back in 2013, by teammate Jhevaughn Mattherson.

Despite missing out on their goal for the Gibson/McCook Relays Stennett is still beaming with confidence that the Kingston College Class Three sprint relay quartet will right the wrong in time for Champs.

“We are not really happy with the time today. We were aiming after the record, but we came close, so it’s not a big problem. The weather played a part. We know where we went wrong, and we just have to correct it and come again for Champs,”.

KC won the Class Four and Three 4×100 races at Gibson in 43.40 seconds and 45.17 seconds respectively, the Class four outdoing the bigger boys in terms of time.

The Class Three Champs record is held by Jamaica College which was set in 2013 when they posted 40.54 seconds.
