BOLT, FRASER-PRYCE IN TIGHT RACE FOR LAUREUS AWARDS 2016

Jamaica’s 2015 World champions Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce have both been shortlisted for the prestigious Laureus Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year award.

Bolt, who has won the award on three previous occasions, 2009, 2010 and 2012 will be looking to add a fourth one to his collection.

This is his sixth nomination for the award.

The world record holder made a successfully defence of his world titles last year, winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m at the IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015.

He will be up against other nominees in basketball sensation Stephen Curry from the USA, Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, British Motor Sport athlete Lewis Hamilton and US golfer Jordan Spieth.

Fraser-Pryce who won her third 100m world title and secured the gold as a part of Jamaica’s 4x100m team will look to secure her first title ahead of last year’s winner 1500m record holder and Ethiopian star Genezbe Dibaba.

Fraser- Pryce was also nominated in 2010, 2013 and 2014.

The list of female nominees is completed by Austrian skier Anna Fenninger, US swimmer Katie Ledecky, US soccer player Carli Lloyd and US tennis player Serena Williams.

World champions, Britain’s Heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill and Kenyan 800m star David Rudisha have been nominated in the ‘comeback of the year’ category for 2016.

The winners will be announced at the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony in Berlin on 18 April.
