Former West Indies captain Brian Lara has come out swinging at the West Indies authorities and its people in regards to the lack of homage to Guyanese cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Lara who played alongside Chanderpaul is disappointed that the second highest Test runs scorer behind himself, was not availed a ‘proper send-off’ in international cricket. He described Chanderpaul, as one of the giants of West Indies cricket, having a total of 11,867 runs in 164 Tests, 86 runs behind Lara who scored 11,953 in 131 Tests.

“I was very disappointed that Shiv was not allowed a couple of more Test matches, not necessarily to break the record but to have a proper send-off. Something I think he is very disappointed [about] and unfortunately that did not happen,” Lara told Espn Cricinfo in a recent interview.

The 41 year old cricketer had not played for West Indies since May 2015; and now will be looking to ply his trade in the Masters T20 league in England, hence he had to call time on his international career as per ICC rules.

His last international assignment was in the just concluded West Indies Nagico Super50 tournament, where he helped his team to the semi-finals.
