A host of local and international athletes including the leading candidates, for Girls’ crown at the upcoming ISSA Boys and Girls Championships in March, all came out grace the newly laid surface at the GC Foster College Campus on Saturday.
The meet provided a platform for senior athletes who intend to compete on the indoor circuit, building to the Rio Olympics in August. The men’s 60 Meter Dash was won by St Kitts and Nevis veteran Sprinter Kim Collins with a world leading mark of 6.53 seconds. Former National champion Oshane Bailey, competing for GC Foster College was second in 6.65, with University of Technology’s Kwisi McFarlane ending third in 6.77 seconds.
Former Junior National representative Gayon Evans, competing for GC Foster College won the women’s event in 7.19 ahead of teammate Audra Segree 7.23 and Shimayra Williams of UTech in 7.34 seconds.
GC Foster College secured a quenella in the Women’s 200m with Sashalee Forbes 24.08 and Samantha Curtis 24.32 crossing the line ahead of MVP athlete Tjipekapora Herunga, 24.64 seconds.
Nigel Ellis, of St Elizabeth Technical 21.10 seconds ambushed the College pair of Travane Morrison from University of Technology 21.15 seconds and GC Foster’s Alvin Green, with 21.61 seconds.
St Jago’s Alesha Kelly 54.69 seconds, Vere’s Sanique Walker 56.08 seconds and Dorian Nelson seconds 57.19 won the Class One, Two and Three 400m events respectively.
St Jago’s Collin Sewell 48.16s triumphed in the Class One Boys 400m, Anthony Cox, 49.17s was quickest in Class Two, KC’s Shanthamoi Brown ran 53.22s to win in Class Three.
G C Foster College ‘s duo of Renea Ambersley, 56.48 seconds and Collin King 48.22 seconds won the open 400m events.
The Girls 400 Meter Hurdles was a battle between Edwin Allen Shannon Kalawan, Shannon 59.24 seconds and Vere Technical’s Sanique Walker 59.72 seconds. Sprint Hurdler out of Holmwood Technical Nicolee Foster fought her way to third in 59.74 seconds.
St. Elizabeth Technical Winsome Harris won the U18 Final in 1:04.28 seconds. Jauavney James of St. Elizabeth Technical ran home in 53.53 seconds to win the Boys U20 event. He finished ahead of Rayan Holmes of Edwin Allen 53.68 seconds and Kingston College’s Chadrick Brown in 53.95 seconds. Another St Elizabeth athlete in Dashinelle Dyer won the Under 18 Boys event in 55.19 seconds.
Marzel Miller of GC Foster College ran 52.65 seconds to edge St Jago’s Timor Barrett, 52.82 seconds and Dwayne Extol of Eagles Track Club in 53.20 seconds.
Class three sprint prodigy Britany Anderson of Vere Technical sped to 11.44 seconds to defeat Crystal Morrsion of. Jago High in 11.52 seconds and Excelsior’s Ackera Nugent 11.75 seconds.
Manchester High pair of Sidney Marshall 13.82 seconds and Daszay Freeman 14.23 seconds came out on top in the class three event.
Holmwood’s Gabrielle McDonald 14.07 was first to cross the line in Girls 100m hurdles. Patrice Moody of Edwin Allen was second in 14.14 seconds and St. Jago’s Safiya Thompson 14.29 seconds for third.
Kingston College’s Chadrick Brown 13.89 seconds and Oquendo Bernard of Jamaica College 14.19 seconds won the Class One and Two 110 hurdles respectively.
The Women’s 4×800 Meter Relay Open which got the days proceeding under way was won by the Edwin Allen High in 9:01.69 seconds. Vere Technical High 9:05.53 and Holmwood Tec 9:07.49 finished second and third in that event.
Maximum Aerobic 7:43.52 clipped the team from St. Elizabeth Technical 7:46.26, for the Men’s Open. St.Jago High 7:49.10 finished down in third.
Holmwood Technical with a new record of 45.58 seconds, St. Jago High 46.59 seconds and Edwin Allen High 46.78 shared the honours in winning the Class One, Two and Three Girls sprint relays respectively.
Edwin Allen High blazed to a new record of 48.51 seconds to win the Class Four event.
The Defending Girls champions continued their dominance winning the mile relay in a quick 3:45.41 to defeat St. Jago High 3:46.11 and Holmwood Technical 3:47.56.
Excelsior High School secured the Boys Class One event in 41.69 seconds, with Munro College 43.74 copping the Class Two event. St. Elizabeth won the Class Three final in 45.29 seconds.
Edwin Allen dominated the Long jump, winning in all classes except Class One. Paula-Ann Chambers (Class Four) 4.86m, Lotavia Brown (Class Three) 5.68m and Annia Ashley 5.71m (Class Two). Tissanna Hickling of St. Jago High leapt 6.08m to secure the senior class.
