Inaugural McKenley/Wint Track & Field Classic is on Saturday, January 23

Calabar High School is pleased to announce the 1st staging of The McKenley/Wint Track & Field Classic on Saturday, January 23, 2016 on the school grounds at 61 Red Hills Road, starting at 8:30 a.m.

 

The McKenley/Wint Track & Field Classics sanctioned by the JAAA and is a qualifying meet for Boys &Girls Athletics Championships. The meet is named after two Calabar Old Boys the Honourable Herbert McKenley and Dr. Arthur Wint who were outstanding athletes for Jamaica in the Olympic Games of 1948 & 1952 when Jamaica entered under itsown name.

 

The Organizing Committee has extended an open invitation to athletic teams and individuals from all schools, clubs and institutions from all over Jamaica to participate in this the inaugural staging.

 

We will be competing in the following categories;

Boys – Classes 1, 2 and 3 and Open

Girls – Classes 1, 2 and 3 and Open

 

Events

There will be 100m, Sprint Hurdles, 400m, 1500m (all classes) and 400m Hurdles Open.

A maximum of four (4) competitors per class per team per event will be allowed.

In the field events we will be having High Jump, Long Jump, Shotput and Discus for all classes (as competed at Championships).

A maximum of three (3) competitors per class per team per event will be allowed.

 

The Meet will also have 7 special events

  • 400m and 800m MEN Olympic Development
  • 400m and 800m WOMEN Olympic Development
  • 100m Under 12 Boys and Girls for specially invited primary and prep schools in the area.

·         100m for Calabar Old Boys

 

All teams are requested to wear their regular competition colours.

 

Awards and Incentives

The Events will be run as heats and the fastest THREE times / FURTHEST distances will be given medals. The overall fastest time in the 400 metres BOYS and GIRLS will be given the Arthur Wint Trophies donated by the Wint family.

The top performers in the Men and Women Olympic Development Events (400M & 800M) will be awarded cash prizes. The prize money will be donated by the McKenley family and the Calabar Old Boys Association New York Chapter.

 

No entries will be accepted on the day of competition.

 

The Meet will be officially launched on Thursday, January 14 at 9:20 AM on the school grounds. There we will give a full overview of the Meet as well as introduce the sponsors:  Grace Kennedy, Digicel, Guardian Life, Burger King, etc. etc. who have contributed generously in the staging of the meet and the honouring of Herbert McKenley and Arthur Wint.

 

The cost to enter the venue on the day will be $200.
