The 12th staging of the Douglas Forrest Invitational on Saturday was graced by a host of high school teams who came out to continue their build up to this year’s ISSA Boys and Girls Championships.
The curtain was raised with action on the track, where St Jago senior Andrennette Knight securing heat one and the title overall in the 400 hurdles open. She crossed the line in 1:00.56 minutes to finish ahead of Shian Salmon of Hydel High with 1:01.71 minutes and Johnelle Thomas of Vere Technical was third in 1:03.89 minutes.
Kingston College’s Orlando Smith secured the male equivalent in 53.91 seconds, with Calabar’s Aykeeme Francis 54.34 and KC’s Chadrick Brown 54.53 finishing second and third respectively.
In the distance events the Hydel pair of Monifa Green and Aaliyah Stewart finished first and second respectively, in the girls’ 3,000m open. Green winning time was a modest 11:05.72 minutes ahead of Stewart’s 11:15.07 minutes. Camperdown’s Nastassia Facey 11:31.59 minutes rounded out the top three.
St Jago patterned Hydel with their pair of Thaleentino Green, 16:04.98 minutes and Kyle Morgan in 16:24.84 minutes secured a quinella in the Boys 5000m Open. Romario Foote of Mico University was third in 16:48.65 minutes.
St Jago’s Leon Clarke and Mico University’s Samantha James won the Class 1 races for the 1500m.
Vere Technical had handsome returns in the 800m for all classes on the girls side with Aleitha Fearon (2:20.94), Britney Dixon 2:18.37 and Alisha Skyer (2:25.14) , copping the Class one, two and three events respectively.
Young Jabari Taylor of Wolmer’s Boys (2:08.31) won the class three boys 800m, finishing ahead of Calabar’s pair of Kenroy Venson ( 2:08.9) and Jevana Edwards (2:09.91).
It was another quinella for St Jago High in the Class 2, 800m where Keenon Lawrence (1:59.22) and Anthony Cox (2:00.90), managed to better the time of reigning World Youth 400m champion, Calabar’s Christopher Taylor, who despite winning his heat had to settle for third in 2:01.90 minutes.
In the 800m for Class One Boys, it was success for St. Jago\s Shawn Bailey winning in 1:56.59 while Cameron Blazers athlete, Martin Manley placed second in 1:56.97.
In the field, shot putters Devia Brown of Hydel High captured the Class One shot put with a mark of 12.72m while Vere Technical’s Avery Pryce took the Class Two event with a throw of 12.34m.
JC’s Vashon McCarthy rebounded from last week’s defeats at his back yard to secure the Boys Class One discus with a throw of 48.05m landing victory ahead of Eric Campbell of Oberlin in 48.42m. Malik Lynch of Wolmer’s was third with 45.42m
The jumpers also had strong day as Jamaica College copped both top spots in the Class Three Boys long jump with John-Mar Rainsford 6.16m out jumping teammate Tajay Bromfield with 5.64m.
Samoya Neil of Excelsior High won the Girls’ Class Four long jump with 5.03 m.
Another Vere Technical athlete Lamar Distan, took the Class Two high jump with 1.70 m height to win on count by ahead of St Andrews Lorean Murray (1.70) and Wolmerian Toni Farquharson in third with 1.60m.
Britney Kerr won the Class One event with a leap of 1.73 metres to win ahead of Alpha’s Gabrielle Foster with 1.70metres.
Defending class one High jump champion St Jago’s Romario Douglas had to share the spoils with Calabar’s Leroy Paige as both had identical score cards, with best marks coming at 2.05m.
Thiea Shea secured the Boys 200m Class Three in 23.21, ahead of Munro Dorian Douglas 23.94 seconds and St Jago Jevana Edwards in 24.07 seconds. The Calabar pair of Dejour Russell (22.48) and Tyreke Wilson (22.61) secured the top spots in the Class Two event. Anthony Cox of St Jago was also timed in 22.61 seconds for third.
In the Class 1 Girls 200 meter Dash Taquece Duggan of Hydel High won with a time of 25.43m ahead of Toni Ann Nelson from Excelsior High 25.72m. Shecorea Ellis from Hydel High finished third with a time of 25.86m.
Cishonna Williams won the class two girls final in 25.16 seconds, ahead of Mount Alvernia Kemba Nelson in 25.73 seconds.
Vere Technical Britany Anderson won the Class Three event in 24.70 seconds to defeat Convent of Mercy Alpha’s Kiara Grant (24.96) for a second straight week
Mico University’s Andre Leveridge 22.44 and Davie Brown 9 22.580 finished one-two in the class one male 200m final.
The team of Sean Reid, Abi-Gaye McTavish, Dorian Nelson and Renee Shaw won the 4×400 Relay Girls for Excelsior High School. They also secured the Open Medley Relay Girls with the team of Rashal Reid, Micah Bernard, Junine Goodison and Tamia McLean.
The 4x 400 Relay for Boys went to the St. Mary’s High school team of Travis Hines, Giovanni Purser, Delon Farr and Aaron Lowe.
The Open Medley Relay Boys was one by Lerenzo Cooper, Damari Harris, Rasheed Fasnya and Shemar Chambers from St. George’s College
