Old Harbour High School makes it 10 straight championships

The Old Harbour High School basketball team remains Kings of the ISSA High School Northern Conference Basketball championships, after they copped their tenth straight crown on Tuesday.The U19 team has not lost a match in the regular season or playoff games in the last ten years.

The Ricardo Edwards coached unit steamed rolled York Castle High, 58-23 to close out the series two-nil on Tuesday at Foster Complex. They won game one on 65-15 last Thursday.

Javell Redwood with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Tajay Hamilton 11 points and 17 steals led the scoring for the team.

Nicoloy Bailey who has a penchant for making the big plays for his team, contributed 11 points and 7 steals in that game. The 16 year old national prospect then copped the season’s MVP title, having led his team throughout the season with an average of over 25 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Edwards, an easy choice for Coach of Year in that conference and now serving as the longest tenured head coach at the school — attributed this milestone to the work of God.

“Actually I got the job and the funny thing is the season was a week away from starting and I had said that would never coach again. I started ten years ago and just never knew what was going to happen and now look at what God has done ” The ten times champion coach revealed.

A chance for double success and another tenth crown in juniors competition is just 24 hours way.The U16 team won 33-22 on Tuesday, rebounding from a game one defeat to level the series 1-1 with York Castle High and force a game three this Thursday at 2:30pm at the GC foster College.

“This year could have been 11 straight but York Castle beat me last year to break it, but we are back to secure our 10th crown” Edwards told Yardie Sports

The season will culminate with the National U19 playoffs and coach Edwards made it clear that the team should return deep and more formidable for this years campaign which should be much different from last year.

” We were not a our best due to the fact that 3 of my best players went on scholarships while the season was going on we could not adjust, but we are back for better fortunes” he noted.
