IPC Athletics World Championships kicks off in Doha, Qatar

Over 1,300 athletes from over 90 countries will take part in the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships which is being held at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, Doha Qatar.

The seventh edition of the Championships will run for 10 days.

Jamaica’s team comprises 8 athletes, Slyvia Grant, Alphanso Cunningham, Tanto Campbell ,Shane Hudson, kevon Reid, David Bascoe, and Sheldon Cox.

They will seek to build on the nations performance at the last World Championships in Lyon, France, two year ago, where the country won one medal, gold by Alphanso Cunningham in the Men’s F52/53 javelin.

Campbell will be the first Jamaican on show in the first event – the men’s discus F56 final on Thursday.

Other Jamaican competitors, on the opening day will be Hudson and Bascoe in the T46 400m event.

Team flag bearer and debutant, wheel chair sprinter, sheldon Cox, who will seek to build on Jamaica’s history at these games.

This championship will be the last major competitions ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, and will provide aspiring athletes from around the world a chance to secure qualification for the Games.
