She was virtually unknown to the world when she entered the Chinese capital at the 2008 Olympics, but when the games came to its close, it was Jamaica, that was buzzing on the lips of track and field fans all round the globe, this being led by Shelly-Ann Frazer- Pryce and Usain Bolt. Both created history for Jamaica, when they captured the 100m sprint titles in superb fashion.
The diminutive figure, self-proclaimed pocket rocket, is the envy of many with her bullet and aggressive sprint style from the first step and every stride through 100m, which led her to her first individual Olympic gold in 10.78 seconds in Beijing.
Both athletes have gone on to dominate subsequent World Championships and Olympic Games, and are still the face of male and female sprinting even to this present day.
Fraser-Pryce makes a return to the stadium where she conquered the world seven years ago, in an effort to defend her World Championship title in the 100m.
The 28 year old won the 100m gold medal in the 2009 IAAF World Championships, becoming the second female sprinter to hold both World and Olympic 100 m titles simultaneously (after American Gail Devers).
Her honours to date include the fact that she is also the only female athlete to hold both titles on two separate occasions (2008 Olympic title and 2009 World title, and the 2012 Olympic and 2013 World title).
In 2013 she became the first female sprinter to win gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in a single world championship.
Fraser-Pryce is also the second woman ever to own the world titles at 60m, 100m and 200m simultaneously.
The 2015 National Senior 100m champion is already gunning close to her personal best of 10.70 seconds, in the 2015 season. She currently leads the world with 10.74 seconds, run at the Paris Diamond league on July 4.
As history beckons in Beijing, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is looking to become the first female to win three world 100m titles since the championships began in 1983.
“We’re young and have so much fire burning for our country,” Fraser-Pryce blurted out breathlessly after her world 100m triumph in Berlin.
She will look to continue to blaze the fire and write yet another fantastic chapter in her ; The tales of Gold and Glory!
