A BIG DAY COMPETITOR- SHERONE SIMPSON

World Championships,Sherone Simpson,Beijing China,Birds Nest,

The strength in her, to rise against the odds, to strive to conquer, is what Sherone Simpson embraces on her track and field journey. She also embraces the defeats, the down moments, because that’s what has pushed her to another spot on Jamaica’s team to the World Athletics Championship in Beijing China.

The Chinese capital, inside the Bird Nest, is a place of sweet memories for the former Manchester High standout, now a member of the local based Sprint Tech Track Club.

Coming through the rounds at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, many were of the opinion that it was mere luck that landed her in the finals of the 100m. Lining up in lane one, patiently awaiting the starters gun, and moving down the track with a target in mind, Simpson managed to snatch the silver medal in an historic feat, a 1-2-2 finish by the Jamaican sprinters.

It is always nice to do a great things twice, and even nicer to do it even better than the previous occasion. This is mindset that Simpson will approach the 15th edition of the Games. She is set to race over both sprint distances, after finishing amongst the top contenders at the 2015 National Senior Trials.

Unlike the Olympic Games, her best Individual performances at the World Championship are 6th and 8th, over the 100m and 200m respectively.

But the past won’t matter anymore, when she touches down inside the Bird’s Nest between August 22 – 30 2015, under the banner of the Black, Green and Gold.

And like someone said in the past, Running is a metaphor for life; there’s always someone faster than you, always someone slower than you. But all you can do is hang in there, and put your whole heart into it.

There are not only great people in this world, but also great challenges, but if Simpson remains focused and in good physical shape, she is sure to rise to meet the occasion.
