Pitter, Martin Secure Final Leg of Everyone’s A Winner 8k Race

Kingston, Jamaica; Road race veterans Shawn Pitter and Arieta Martin won the male and female 8K race as the curtains came down on the Best Dressed Chicken sponsored Everyone’s A Winner Road Race Series at the Hope Botanical gardens on Sunday June 21.

Pitter, who was representing team ‘ Body by Kurt’, decimated the field and won in a time of twenty seven minutes and nine seconds (27:09) to beat out his teammate Okley Coke who clocked an impressive twenty eight minutes and nine seconds (28:09). Ryon Chambers of ‘We Got The Runs’ Running Club, also finished in under 30 minutes for third place in twenty-eight minutes and twenty-six seconds (28:26).

For Pitter, the race was quality practice as he prepares for an upcoming road race overseas.

“I wasn’t really challenged today, the course was pretty good and I just executed my race the way I wanted,” said Pitter.

On the female side, Martin, who ran for the ‘Double Marchers’ Running Club took the event in thirty-six minutes and thirty five seconds (36:35). Second was Ina Daley of ‘Pacers Running Club’ with teammate Karlene Blagrove third.

For Martin it was good to come out with another win having participated in several distance races in her illustrious career.

“Today’s race was perfect for me, the course wasn’t an easy one but I used my experience to pull off the victory,” said Martin.

The 5K race for men went to Romario Morrison who secured a hat-trick of wins having won the two previous 5K races in the series. Morrison, out of the Mavis Bank Track Club, took the event in eighteen minutes and twelve seconds (18:12).

Crystal Brown, also of Mavis Bank Track Club took the female equivalent in twenty-two minutes and seven seconds. The 5K walk went to Paula Sinclair, leading the female division with Andre Smith securing the male race.

Joan Forrest, Divisional Sales and Marketing Manager at Best Dressed Chicken was once again elated at the wonderful turnout and professed that the event will get even better in years to come.

Race Director Alfred Francis indicated that the series was a huge success and the event is here to stay, as it has become a staple for avid runner as well as new comers. He expressed pleasure to see the participation both among the youths and mature athletes, and also the seamless synergy between the growth of physical fitness and awareness of healthy eating choices.

Proceeds from the Series will go to assist the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, the Heart Foundation of Jamaica and the Neurological Unit at the University Hospital of the West Indies & the event signaled the end of the crowd funding campaign by partners Pitch & Choose to raise funds for the above listed charity partners.
