WORLD YOUTH AND PAN AM JUNIOR SPOTS UP FOR GRABS AT NATIONAL JUNIOR TRAILS 2015

Photo: Fifteen year old Calabar stand-out quarter-miler Christopher Taylor has run 45.55s this season.

The Pan Am Junior Championships set for Edmonton Canada July 31- August 2 2015 and the World Youth Championship scheduled for the South American Continent, Cali, Columbia from 15-19 July are shaping up to be International Track and Field Spectacles on the IAAF Track Calendar 2015.

Kingston’s National Stadium will see many star junior (16- 19 yrs old) athletes, vying for spots on both teams as they seek to represent the Black, Green and Gold at both of these championship later this summer.

Headlining the list of competitors down to grace the track is sensational sprinter Christopher Taylor who currently holds world age-15 best of 45.55 over 400m. He is likely to come face to face with the likes of Anthony Carpenter of Calabar High, Kingston College standout Twayne Crooks and Petersfield athlete Devaughn Ellington.

Former world youth champion, Marvin Williams, could have his teammate Juavaney James for company in the 400m Hurdles. Jaheel Hyde, winner of the 2013 World Youth 110m hurdles and record holder at 13.13 is still eligible to run as a junior athlete but is likely to opt out of the championship, due his bid for National Senior representation at this summer’s World Championships in Beijing, China.

A host of other ‘Champs 2015’ standout including the likes Leon Clarke, Shemar Salmon,Shammawi Wellington, Tyreke Wilson, Terrry Thomas, Keenon Lawrence, Leonardo Ledgister could be on show today.

On the female side Junelle Bromfield of STETHS, headlines, the competitors scheduled to run over 400m and 400m hurdles. She will once again match strides with the likes of Shian Solomon of Hydel High.

Papine’s Tiffany James and teammate Candice McLeod will battle with Camperdown’s Donna-Lee Loney, as they seek tickets to Canada.

The sprinters line up will see the likes of Edwin Allen standout Shellece Clark, St Catherine’s Annakay Allen,and St Jago’s pair of Shaneil English and Kimone Shaw, all past national representatives, gunning for spots on the different teams.

Young Janeek Brown of Wolmer’s Girls will look to emulate former Holmwood and World Youth record holder Yanique Thompson, as she matches strides of Safia Thompson of St Jago and Homwood Technical Nicole Foster in the 100m hurdles. All three athletes are ranked in the top ten according to latest IAAF rankings.

Immaculate High’s Jeanine Williams and Dinthill Technical’s Yeaschea Williams could clash over the hurdles as well.

The field athletes will include the likes of St Jago’s High Jumper Lushnae Wilson, and Holmwood Techncial long and triple jumper, Tamara Moncreiff, Shanice Love of Excelsior High, Shardia Lawerence of Hydel High, Ayesha Champagne of STATHS, Terrol Wilson of Jamaica College are all top class names who will be on show.

Holmwood Technical Lisa Bucchanann and Shanieke Watson could lead the charges in the middle to long distance events.

The meet is scheduled for two days, with Saturday’s first day getting on the way at 9 am, and culminating at 5:30pm.

The events set to be contested on day one are the 5000m Boys , 3000m girls, 400m Hurdles , 800m , 100m , 400m , 1500m Discus; Long Jump ; High Jump and Javelin Throw.
