Jerome Taylor made use of the pace of the Sabina Park pitch, in his first spell to dismiss both openers without conceding a single run on day one of the second Test match between the West Indies and Australia. Taylor came back for a second spell just before lunch, keeping the Australians batsmen in check and they still could not score off the fast bowler. At the lunch break Taylor figures made for marvelous reading: six overs, six maidens , no runs and two wickets.

When Taylor returned after lunch the first run was scored off his bowling. It was so rare that the Australians supporters cheered the single run that came off the St. Elizabeth born.Taylor is known to do well when he is playing at home.

Taylor was easily the best bowler on the day with the Australians batsmen finding it difficult to play the right hand fast bowler. He finished with the impressive figures of fifteen overs, eight maidens, eighteen runs and three wickets against an Australian batting line up that found the going easy against just about all the other West Indian bowlers.

“I am the bowling leader, so I always look to back my captain and get wickets early and put opponents under pressure and also give all the bowlers confidence. I am always feeling good playing at home because this ground has a lot of good memories for me and to come and give our supporters a good showing, it makes me feel good,’ a very humble Taylor said.

Taylor was the one bright spark on a very hard day for the West Indies in the field and will need to report in a similar frame of mind and hope to get support from his other bowlers if they are to wrestle the initiative from the tourists. Australia closed the day on 258/4, slightly ahead in a very engaging contest.
