This year’s NCB Capital Markets Junior Sporting Clays Nationals which is scheduled for Sunday June 7 at the Jamaica Skeet Club premises in Portmore will see its largest entry list of seventy-eight competitors. The competition will get underway at 10:30 am with a shotgun start. It will be preceded by registration at 8:45 and opening ceremony at 9:45.

Nicholas Chen is the defending champion and he ended the championship with a score of ninety-four. He returns to seek another win which would give him three wins in the 5-year competition, having won in 2012 – the second year of the competition.

Other junior shooters who are expected to do well include Chad Zaidie, Brandon Reid, Rueben Mair, Jake Perrion, Aiden Ingledew and Nicholai clarke.

There will be thirteen shooting stations for this competition. The competing categories are Junior A, B and C; Sub-Junior A and B; Girls A and B and Beginners. The age group of this year’s competitors are expected to be between nine years and nineteen years.

Beginners will shoot fifty rounds while the others will shoot one hundred rounds. The top six shooters will then form the Super Six round where they will shoot an additional twenty-five rounds. The shooter with the highest score in the Super Six will take the trophy for the overall winner.

The competition which started in 2011 with fifty-seven entries has seen steady growth over the years. Entries are expected from prep schools, secondary schools, colleges and universities inclusive overseas based institutions such as the University of South Florida and Florida International University. There are five new institutions this year taking the total to seventeen overall.
