Elaine Thompson of the University of Technology (UTech) was the talk of the Utech Classics held at the National Stadium last Saturday. Thompson won the Women’s 100m in 10.92s which was a new record for the meet, the fastest time for a woman this year and she became the 11th Jamaican woman to run under 11 seconds.

She has been in good form and just last week she ran 11.10s at the Intercollegiate Championships to take the gold medal.

“I did not expect to run so fast last week (at Intercol), but I knew I would have run a fast time today. I am happy to be healthy and run a fast time. My aim is to come in the top three at the Jamaican Trials and I would be satisfied,” she told Yardie Sports.

Thompson, 23, has the potential to upset a lot of big names at the National Trials for the World Championship this year. She is a hard worker and showed that once she stays healthy she will defintely be among the contenders for a place on the fight to Beijing, China for World Championships.
