World Juniors 400 metre hurdles record holder and World Youth Olympic 2014 champion Jaheel Hyde, cleared all the doubts and worries from local and track and field fans, who thought that his sparing appearances across development meets was because of any injuries or due to a lack of fitness, with a scorching double victory at the 2015 Carifta Trials.

In his first 400m hurdles race for the season, the Wolmer’s Boys star bounced home in a scintillating 49.78s in the Under-20 Boys fnal on the first day of the Trials.

Trailing him home was a pressing Marvin Williams in 50.59s (PB) representing St. Elizabeth Technical High school. Williams is the athlete many believe has a legitimate and probably the best chance of challenging at Champs for the open event.

The third spot went to another STETHS athlete in Robin Black (51.85s).

“Coming into the race I was very nervous (and) it was my first hurdles race for the season, so you had to expect some amount of nerves. But I knew that I had sub-50 in me for an opener, so I can’t wait to see what happens for the rest of the season,” Hyde told reporters.

Hyde returned on the second day to secure the top spot in the shorter version of the obstacle event. Again lining up in his first race in this event for 2015, Hyde flew over each hurdle, smooth and swiftly on his way to win in a new personal best time of 13.22 seconds. Calabar High seasoned campaigner Seanie Selvin 13. 42 seconds, secure the second spot over Williams who finished third in 13. 68 seconds.

Hyde is the defending 400m hurdles champion for the upcoming Boys Championship scheduled for March 24- 28 2015 inside the National Stadium.
