West Indies and South Africa hunt quarter final spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup

ICC Cricket World Cup,Chris Gayle,West Indies,South Africa,

If you go by recent match-ups, today’s clash in Sydney at 10:30pm between South Africa and the West Indies in the ICC Cricket World Cup should go the way of South Africa.

South Africa has dominated the West Indies in their recent series, their only loss came at Port Elizabeth, after they won the series back in January. However, this match is not expected to be a one sided affair.

The Proteas have failed to put in a convincing performance thus far in the World Cup and they have always failed to get it right in at key moments in big tournaments.

Chris Gayle’s double ton against Zimbabwe is the first ever double century in a World Cup. The West Indies have built up their confidence with two thrilling wins and with the good all round performances it makes the Caribbean team dangerous.

Gayle’s century against Zimbabwe in Canberra was his first in 15 ODI innings on Australian soil. Three of his 22 hundreds have come against South Africa, but his average drops six points from the career figure against the team. Since that Jaipur epic, his highest score in 13 matches against South Africa has been 45.

Chris Gayle who missed training yesterday in order to rest his back is expected to be fit for this game. Suileman Benn and Darren Bravo are still Injured and the West Indies is expected to go with the same team that defeated Zimbadwe a few days ago.

South Africa’s Vernon Philander, who pulled up with a hamstring injury after bowling just four overs against India is expected to be replace by  Kyle Abbott. Wayne Parnell’s position in the team will be questioned as well after going for 85 runs from his nine overs.

This match is a very important one for both teams, in their pursuit to qualify for the quarter-finals.
