It was a time of great jubilation and celebration at the end of Boys and Girls Championship 2014 as Edwin Allen High school from Frankfield, got their second title ever in the competition’s history.

Edwin Allen girls, showed great determination and confidence from the start and went on to seal the title with a massive 337.50 points. St Jago High placed second with 263 points. Third was Hydel High on 229 points while defending champions Holmwood Technical finished fourth with 211.50 points; and Vere Technical finished fifth on 141.

The school is now gearing up to repeat their 2014 performance as they seek a third hold on the prestigious title.

The Michael Dyke coached team, despite missing most of their Class One powerhouses such Monique Spencer, Christania Williams, Claudette Allen and long distance queen Marleena Eubanks from last champs, are still amongst the favorites to lift the crown.

Chief amongst those that will lead their charges are ; Class One sprinter and quarter miler Saqukine Cameron, Class Four sprinter Shanique Rowe, Class Two sprinter Shellece Clarke, 400m runner Shannon Kalawan and Nadine Rose and middle distance runners Asshanni Robb and Alvina Howell.

They are very strong in the throws with the talented trio of Rochelle Frazer, Paul-Ann Gayle and Janell Fullerton. Major contributions should come from Jumpers, Donique Bryan and Kimone Reid. They should make good of the relays in all classes.

They will be even more hard pressed this year by the closest rival from last year and it should be a race to wire. However, it is the belief of many within the track and field circles, that Edwin Allen is still the team to beat. We wait patiently to see if the light blues of Clarendon can live up to their motto: ‘Transeamus in Exemplum’ which translates to ‘Let Us Be an Extraordinary/outstanding Example.
