West Indies and Ireland win final warm up match

World Cup cricket,West Indies,Scotland,Ireland,

West Indies’ preparations for the World Cup has not been good thus far despite winning against Scotland by four runs in a warm-up match at the famous Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Although the Caribbean pulled off a win by three runs, this was by no means a performance to show their opponents they are ready for the World Cup. This surely leaves Caribbean cricket fans more doubt that they can cause an upset in New Zealand and win the World Cup.

Thrashed by England at the same ground in their first warm-up on Monday, the twice world champions needed a flurry of late wickets to restrict the Scots to 310 for nine in reply to the 313 for eight they posted in their 50 overs.

Scotland Opener Kyle Coetzer scored a fine 96 to fire the run-chase and Richie Berrington chipped in with 66 but the Scots could not quite find the partnership they needed at the end secure the victory and send a warning to their opponents.

Chris Gayle who failed to give the Windies a start once again contributing only one (1) run. It was Wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin who top score with (88) and Lendl Simmons (55) to get the West Indies to 313/9.

Elsewhere, Ireland who are known to surprise their opponents in the World Cup, beat Bangladesh by four wickets.

Ireland won the toss and chose to bowl first, Max Sorensen (3-31) and John Mooney (3-32) took three wickets apiece as Bangladesh were bundle out for 189 in 48.2 overs.

Ireland then got the start they needed from former England top order batsman Ed Joyce who hit 47 to help set the Irish on their way before Andrew Balbirnie (63 not out) and Kevin O’Brien (23) teamed up for a sixth-wicket partnership of 41 to take them to victory in 46.5 overs.
