Million dollar bounty from Alliance Buccaneers golf tournament

The Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament presented a cheque for one million dollars ($1,000,000) to Sister Benedict of the Laws Street Trade Training Centre at the tournament’s awards function at the Constant Spring Golf Club in Kingston Monday night.

Sister Benedict said that the funds received from the organizers of the tournament annually, helps the Centre to carry out critical functions such as to give food and care packages to over three hundred (300) persons every other week, train persons in the surrounding community skills such as sewing, baking and computing. She said the she was extremely happy to be the beneficiary of the tournament.

She said that when the Centre started many years ago as an outreach of the Holy Family School where she was the principal, it was the community members who indicated the skills that they were interested in learning. Sister also said that the Centre will continue to serve the community as long as they get the support to do so. She also commended the sponsors who help to make the tournament happen on an annual basis.

Peter Chin who wears many hats such as president of title sponsor Alliance Investment Management, president of the Buccaneers, president of the Jamaica Golf Association and player had high praises for the over one hundred and forty golfers who played in the tournament and the sponsors who made it happen. Chin said that he was pleased to assist the Laws Street Trade Training Centre to help many persons in the community downtown. He also said that the Centre will always be the beneficiary of the tournament. This is the nineteenth year of the tournament and the 7th consecutive year the Alliance is sponsoring it.

Dethroned defending champion Fabian Campbell congratulated fellow professional golfer Wesley Brown for winning the tournament. He said the he had some unsettling news at the start of day two and this resulted in his poor showing after ending day one on 74 similar to Brown. He also said that next year he will return for the championship.

Campbell ended the tournament in 3rd position behind Alfred Robinson and Ewan Peebles who shared second place.

The Men section went to Sean Morris who was happy to come out the winner ahead of Jonathan Newnham who ended on just one stroke behind. Third position was shared by Bryan Bailey and John Donoghue.

Men Senior went to Radcliffe Knibbs while last year’s winner Rory Jardine dropped to second Third went to Philip Prendergast who lead on day one .

The Men Super Senior section had an exciting finish with a play-off between Phillip Wilson and Easton Williams but Wilson came out the winner. Peter Chin and Buccaneer Teddy Richards shared third.

In the Ladies section Tiana Cruz got the better of Kei Harris who was followed by Rochell Prince for third place.

In the Men Junior section Luke Chin edged Max McCloy while third went to Sebert Walker Jr.

The title sponsor is Alliance Investment Management while the associate sponsors are AMG Packaging & Paper Company, CGM Gallagher Insurance Brokers, Digicel Business Solutions, Remax-Elite, Wata, Maxxis and Supreme Ventures.
