News broke early Friday morning that the WICB has been asked to pay over US42 million dollars by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the West Indies player’s abandonment of the tour India a few weeks ago.
They have been given 15 days to respond to the claim of the .BCCI. Failure to do so will likely trigger a lawsuit against the WICB.
This news came after speculative arguments that the BCCI could initiate legal proceedings against West Indies Cricket Board due to the abrupt cancellation of the tour,
There was a projected loss of $60m (£37.2m) in sponsorship and television contracts that the BCCI claimed they would incur. They have also revealed that they would suspend all future bilateral series against West Indies.
The West Indies players have said the WICB was responsible for the decision to pull out of their ongoing tour of India because of a dispute over the payment structure.
The International Cricket Council said on Wednesday it was concerned with the dispute between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the West Indies Cricket Board, and was closely monitoring the developments arising from the recently cancelled tour of India,” an ICC statement, issued on Wednesday, said. “The ICC hopes that the matter will be resolved amicably, but clarified that, unless the matter is otherwise referred to it, it does not have the power to intervene in disputes resulting from a bilateral FTP tour.”
The Question now is can the cash-strapped WICB be able to afford the demands of the BCCI or will they battle it out in the courts.
