MIXED RESULTS FOR JAMAICAN TEAMS AT FIH WORLD HOCKEY LEAGUE

With one of the top teams that would have been in the run for the top spot to the next round, Venezuela, failing to make the trip, the FIH’s World League Round One got going at the Mona Hockey field in Kingston on September 1, 2014 with nine teams from across the region, 5 females and four male teams.

Results from day 2 saw the Nicholas Brown coached Jamaican male unit thanks to cheers from the home crowd , hold their nerves and clawed their way back from a 1 nil deficit to get by the more fancied Barbados team 2-1 in a very exciting match.

Other result from Thursday play on the male side saw Trinidad and Tobago blanking the Dominican Republic 2-0 after their fixture ended in a 2-2 draw at regulation time.

The Jamiacan female squad coached by Dr. Michelle Holt-coached suffered back to back defeats in the tournament thus far going down 3-0, to Dominican Republic in their opening fixture before suffering a 2-0 defeat to the Soca ladies of Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday ,October 2, 2014.

Trinidad and Tobago’s national women’s had won their two previous matches 3-1 triumph over the Dominican Republic and 5-1 victory over Puerto Rico, on the opening day of the tournament and victory against Barbados will qualify them to round two of the league.
