Kingston, Jamaica: Telecommunications leader Flow today announced its multimillion dollar sponsorship of the 2014 staging of the Flow Champions Cup, FCC, knock out football competition. The telecoms firm will spend some $25M this year with a major increase in the prize money for the winners. Flow has pumped 50% more into the purse for the champions. The winners of the 2014 edition of the Champions Cup will walk away with the grand prize of $1.5M and a trophy. The announcement was made as the company launched the Flow Champions Cup at the Jamaica Football Federation Academy at the UWI Mona Bowl on Monday.

Sponsorship Manager at Flow Nicole Campbell said “Flow was happy to have been able to add greater value to not only the Champions league but the development of players in general.”

As part of the sponsorship package, Flow will again facilitate/host a football clinic for players and coaches prior to the start of the Flow Champions Cup. The clinic, to be led by former Jamaica international Altimont ‘Freddie’ Butler, will be held on September 26 at the JFF Academy. The former Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence will also deliver sessions at the football clinic.

For the first time, the football clinic will feature the involvement of a Sports Psychologist.

Miss Campbell said Flow considered the inclusion of the Sports Psychologist as “a major development which adds a new dimension towards the sustainable growth and professionalisation of Jamaican sports”

Flow is also, this year, using the Flow Champions Cup to support community development. The telecoms leader will award J$50,000 to the team with the most goals in each of the five rounds of the competition for use in a community project through the ‘Flow Goals for Charity’ initiative.

Defending champions Waterhouse and 11 other premier league teams will do battle with 14 parish championship clubs for the Flow Champions Cup.

The Flow Champions Cup will kick off on Wednesday, October 1, with the final slated for Monday November 17.
