Having already been branded as the first UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador for Jamaica on 22 February 2010 and a day following that, she was given the honour of Grace Goodwill Ambassador for Peace for 2010 in a partnership with Grace Foods and not-for-profit Organisation PALS (Peace and Love in Society, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was once again given another ambassadorial role. On Wednesday the World and Olympic champion was appointed Ambassador-at-large and Special Envoy by the Government of Jamaica.

In a very elated mood she took to the social media space, facebook, to share the good news with her fans where she posted: “Wow! Who could have predicted a little girl from the Waterhouse Community would one day become an Ambassador for her country? Thanks to the Office of The Prime Minister for bestowing on me diplomatic travel for Mr and Mrs Jason Pryce for life:) #Hiswill #Godisgood #jamaicahouse #jamaicanandproud#pryceless.”

Fraser-Pryce rose to prominence in the 2008 at the Jamaica National Senior trials, then announced herself to the world at the Beijing Olympic Games, becoming the first Caribbean woman to win 100 m gold at the Olympics. In 2012, she successfully defended her 100m title, becoming only the third woman in history to win two consecutive 100m events at the Olympics.

She also became the first female sprinter to win gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in a single championship, a feat she achieved at 2013 world championship.

The new ambassador has not only served this nation on the track, the former Wolmerian athlete has also taken great passion in helping other young student athletes to achieve their dreams through her Pocket Rocket Foundation.
