Stephenie amongst winner’s in Rovereto, Italy

Commonwealth champion Stephenie Ann McPherson, was the best placed Jamaican in action at the 2014 Jubilee 50th Palio della Quercia meeting in Rovereto Italy. She put together a decent race on Tuesday, to cross the line way ahead of her competitors to win in 50.69s. European champion Libania Grenot, came off the bend in third place but she finished strongly, holding off Jamaica’s Christine Day to take second place in 51.30s. Day took third place in 51.66s.

World silver medalist and world leader Justin Gatlin won the men’s 100m in 10.07s running into a slight headwind of -0.4m/s to remain unbeaten this year. He won ahead of Caribbean athletes, Bahamian Warren Fraser 10.26s and Jamaican Julian Forte 10.27s.

US sprinter Barbara Pierre cross the finish line in 11.16s to beat Jamaican Carrie Russell (11.29) to take the win in the women’s 100m. Pierre narrowly missed out on the meeting record set by Irina Privalova in 1993. European medalist and Great Britain’s Ashleigh Nelson 11.30s copped third place in the event.

Former Olympic 110m hurdles champion and world record-holder Cuban Dayron Robles edged out Greece’s Kostantinos Douvalidis in 13.29, coming close to the 13.27 meeting record set by double Olympic champion Roger Kingdom in 1990.

Lavonne Idlette of Dominican Republic won the women’s hurdles in 12.98s.

Trinidad and Tobago’s 2009 world 400m bronze medalist Renny Quow posted a solid 45.13 in the 400 m ahead of Jamaican Rusheen McDonald 45.47.
