Michael Frater to be inducted in TCU Hall of fame

Jamaican Olympian and Fourth Vice President of the Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association (JAAA), Michael Frater, will be inducted the Texas Christian University (TCU) hall of fame, for his outstanding representation in men’s Track & Field between 2001-04 for the team nicknamed the Horned Frogs.

Frater who represented the Maroon and Gold clad, all male institution, Wolmers’ Boys, Jamaica and Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida had a fairly decent junior career, before transitioning to higher studies and greater athletic pursuits at TCU.

He is the little brother to All-American and sprinter Lindel Frater and excelled both in the classroom and on the track during his time at TCU.

He obtained a Bachelor‘s Degree with upper second class honours, in political science with a minor in history while earning for himself several all-state honors in track as both a junior and a senior.

Michael Frater is a four-year letterman and is one of the most decorated student-athletes in TCU track and field history with seven All-America selections and five Conference USA titles. He was named an Academic All-American in 2003. He was awarded the 2002 C-USA Outdoor Athlete of the Year and Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year 2001-2002.

As a senior athlete Frater, who formerly plied his trade at the renowned MVP Track Club, led by Stephen Francis, won a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships and a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games in the 100m .He has also represented Jamaica at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 0lympic Games and has been successful as part of two of Jamaica’s 4×100 meters relay teams, setting the world record and Olympic record at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and followed up with another record run at the Berlin held 2009 World Championships.

He had previously won gold in the relay at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and took silver in the 2002 edition.
He currently holds personal best times of 9.88s and 20.63s in the 100 and 200m respectively.
