Def champ Manchester out of semis of KW U15 Cricket

Defending champion Manchester was knocked out of the semi finals of the 25th Kingston Wharves U15 Cricket Competition by St. Elizabeth by virtue of a better run rate. At close of the 5-match preliminary round yesterday both teams had 4 wins each and their head to head match-up was rained out and ruled ‘no result’. Manchester ended with a net run rate of 1.98 while St. Elizabeth ended with 2.23.

St. Ann. Kingston, Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth are now through to the semi finals of the Kingston Wharves U15 Cricket Competition.

The 5th and final round saw a series of low scoring matches. Kingston defeated St. Thomas by 10 wickets after getting them out for just 42 runs in 14 overs. Top scorer was Shamari Johnson 6. The wickets were shared among Elian Emmanuel 5 for 21, Matthew Comrie 2 for no runs and Michael Megg 2 for 13.

Kingston made light work of the total after racing to 46 without loss in 3.5 overs. The main run getters were Okachie Brown 19 and Michael Megg 10.

Westmoreland though losing its first match got into the semis by virtue of winning its 4 previous matches. They were comprehensively beaten by St. James who was winning its first match of the competition. Westmoreland batted and were all out for 86 with Javid Simpson 25 top scoring. Devonte Dacres bagged 4 for 38 while Aniel Braham got 3 for 8.

St. James replied with 90 without loss off just 13 overs with Dacres getting 59 – the only half century of the round.

St. Ann completed its fixtures on Tuesday against St. Mary with 4 wins to be the only unbeaten team in the competition to date after getting a bye in the first round. Portland did not compete this year so the zone had only 2 teams.

St. Elizabeth defeated St. Catherine by 8 wickets at Manley Horne Park for a meagre 58 all out in 27 overs. Leonard Lewis 7 was the top scorer while the wickets went to Gregory Greaves 4 for 6 runs, Roberto Simpson 3 for 5 and Geovanni Townsend 2 for 6.

St. Elizabeth responded with 59 for 2 in 14.1 overs. The main run getters were Romain Moxam 30 and Robert Simpson 12.

The match between Clarendon and Manchester was another low scoring one and ended up in the Manchester column. Clarendon won the toss and batted making 61 all out with Omari Gordon 21 and Jerome Bonner 10 getting among the runs. Kevon Anniford was the successful bowler with 7 for 21 and Andre Morgan got 2 for 24.

Manchester ended the match early after making 62 for 3 in 11.2 overs. Shadane Smith 22 not out and Dasionel Burton 17 joined forces to get the most runs while Mario Duncan, Romain Silva and Shavon Anderson got one wicket each.

Trelawny lost to Hanover by 7 wickets and the Portmore vs St. Andrew match was rained out. Those teams will however take no further part in the competition.

The semi finals will be played on Friday when St. Ann face off with Kingston at Ultimate Cricket Ground in St. Ann and Westmoreland will take on St. Elizabeth at Seaview Sports Club at Whitehouse in Westmoreland. Matches are scheduled for 9:30 am start and are 50 overs a-side.
