Teams in keen battles for semis in Kingston Wharves U15 Cricket

Several teams are in keen battles for semi final spots in three of the four zones of the Kingston Wharves Under 15 Cricket Competition at the close of yesterday’s fourth preliminary round matches.

Zone 2 sees former champion St. Andrew battling with Kingston after getting 3 wins each. Zone 4 has defending champion Manchester in a keen battle with St. Elizabeth who both have 3 wins. Zone 3 is still undecided though Westmoreland has 4 wins from four matches while Trelawny has 3 wins.

St. Ann in zone 1 is assured of a place in the semis with 3 wins from 3 matches. They play the 4th round tomorrow. They will not be caught by St. Mary who lost all its matches to date. Portland sat out the competition this year.

St. Andrew defeated Portmore by 69 today at Maxfield Park after making 281 for 9 with Razaq Williams 52, Owen Campbell 43 and Geordea Seymour 42 being the main run getters. Ajani Stewart 3-40 and national representative Kirk McKenzie 2 -43 got the most wickets.

Portmore made a valiant effort with 212 all out in 38 overs. Ricardo Thompson 53, Kirk McKenzie 36 and Agazzi Murray 35 contributed the most runs while Owen Campbell bagged 5 for 47.

Kingston defeated St. Thomas by 6 wickets. St. Thomas batted first making 157 all out and Kingston replied with 159 for 4 in 22.3 overs.

Manchester got the better of Clarendon by 103 runs after posting 232 for 6 with Zavier Burton getting 57. Clarendon who were outplayed replied with 129 all out.

The other match in the zone with to St. Elizabeth over St. Catherine by 7 overs. St. Catherine batted first making 127 for 8 in their allotted overs while St. Elizabeth made 128 for 2 in 32.1 overs.

Westmoreland is well on the way to the semis from zone 3 with 4 wins from 4 matches. Today they beat St. James by 11 runs in a low scoring match making just 93 all out however St. James could not capitalize as they were all out for 82.
Trelawny with 3 wins lost to Hanover today by 41 in another low scoring match at the Trelawny Stadium in the parish. It was Hanover’s first win in the competition. Hanover batted first making 112 and Trelawy replied with 71.

The fifth and final preliminary round will be played on Wednesday August 20 with 7 matches across the island.

Matches are scheduled for 9:30 am and are 50 overs a-side. Teams play in their zones on a round robin basis in the preliminary round. (There will be five preliminary round matches per team). They will then move into the knockout stage.
