Fast rising Jamaican sprint star, Kimmari Roach, braved the pains of a leg cramp, to make a safe exchange of the baton to Julian forte on the lead off leg in the heats of the Men’s sprint relay in Glasgow Scotland. It was noted by the commentator that it was relatively slow first leg by the Jamaican. He was seen with a noticeable limp, leaving the track after the completion of the race.

Roach speaking with journalist and sports writer, Leighton Levy on his sportsnation live program on Nationwide Radio, on the 7 of August reported that he suffered a grade two muscle tear to his Quadriceps muscle after consultation with his doctor. A grade 2 Quadriceps tear shows a significant number of fibres are torn with moderate loss of function. He also stated that he will have to do surgery to repair the damage.

The Racers Track club athlete said that he however remains optimistic and hopes to return to the track as soon as possible to continue his senior athletic career.

Roach says he felt very much appreciated for his heroic display, noting that the other athletes, including the likes of Veronica Campbell and Usain Bolt spoke to him after the event, congratulating him and wishing him the very best in recovery. Roach finished fifth the 100m at the National Trials in June and made the team as member of the relay pool.

As a part of his memory of the games and the injury sustained, he plans to frame his gold medal, as well as his running gear.
