Asafa gets season best in Brazil

Jamaica’s former sprint king, Asafa Powell continued his journey back from an 18 month suspension, to claim the top spot at the Grande Premio IAAF World Challenge meet in Brazil.

Running in only his second race after his doping ban was lifted by Court of Arbitration for Sports in July , Powell clocked a seasons best of 10.02 to get the better of the USA duo of Marvin Bracy (10.14) and Dentarius Locke (10.17). Other Caribbean athletes in the lineup were Ramon Gittens of Barbados (10.24) and Antoine Adams of St kitts & Nevis (10.25), which were good enough for 4th and 5th respectively.

In his comeback race, the former MVP athlete ran 10.30 for third in Switzerland after being pipped on the line for the runner spot by Admans.

The other Jamaican athlete on show was national long jump champion Damar Forbes, finished fourth in that event with a leap of 7.55. The event was one by hometown boy Mauro Vinicius da Silva in 7.74.
