The last time the Jamaica Tallawahs and the Guyana Amazon Warriors met in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) was in the inaugural final last year, which was won by the Chris Gayle led Tallawahs. Today both teams will come face to face at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, in what will no doubt be a grudge match for the Amazon Warriors.

The Amazon Warriors lead the current CPL standings having secured three wins from as many starts. The defending champions are also unbeaten with two wins from two games, so despite this game being early in the season it is set to be a spicy encounter with both teams looking to lay down an early marker.

Sunil Narine who missed the recent New Zealand tour to the West Indies because of IPL commitments, has picked up where he left off in winning the IPL and will be aiming to continue his fine bowling form today. Indeed the mystery spinner was pivotal in the Amazon Warriors win over the Trinidad Red Steel, bowling a maiden ‘Super Over’ to guide his team to a nail-biting win on Thursday.

The bowlers have been largely on top so far in the CPL and Nikita Miller, along with new boy Daniel Vettori, have be miserly for the Tallawahs. All rounder, Andre Russell has been effective with the ball as well, while captain Chris Gayle scored the first century of the season in a magnificent and timely return to form.

Jamaican born Krishmar Santokie starred with the ball for the Amazon Warriors when the two teams met in the group stages at Sabina Park last year, helping his team cruise to an easy victory and has been up to his old tricks again this term. His familiarity with the Jamaican players especially, may prove priceless as his team hunts the early advantage and look to widen the gap at the top of the CPL standings.

The game is set to start at 4:00pm est (3:00pm local time)
