The 15th staging of the Covenant-Pediasure Over-Distance Development Meet is set to break new records with an expected 30 schools down to participate in the first development meet of the season for prep and primary schools at the UWI Bowl on Saturday April 5th, 2014.

The previous highest number of participating schools stood at 28 in 2008 but will be surpassed on Saturday with new entrants Cordinaldi Avenue Primary from Montego Bay and New Horizon Prep from Westmoreland among 7 new entrants this year.

Defending champions Hydel and former champions Vaz Prep are two of the teams expected to feature at the meet.

Meet manager Winston Keyes urged the coaches to “help to instill discipline in our children and to present them with a solid example of fair play.”

“Remember our children are the most important participant in this event, help them to enjoy the meet and encourage them to try and do their best at all times,” he pointed out.

Allison Dexter, Senior Brand Manager for Pediasure, the title sponsors of the event said, “We understand the crucial role that sports play in the overall development of an individual. We understand even more the positive impact of proper nutrition in the life of a child both when they are studying and when they are involved in sports. Proper nutrition produces Healthy bodies which produces healthy minds! Pediasure is that healthy product that when included in the nutritional programme provides Complete Balance Nutrition for children between ages 2 – 13.”

Dexter explained that her company was happy to be on board again this year, “Sponsoring Development meets such as Covenant gives us a greater opportunity to interact with the athletes, students, parents and other participants on a more personal basis – to expose the brand benefits to the sporting community. It’s a gathering of over 26 schools with their students, teachers, parents and well-wishers. Attending the Covenant Meet is an experience -It’s as if every child is a potential World Record holder and the parents come out to cheer their “budding” stars! It is not only a track meet but a family affair.

The in-depth involvement of Cari-Med in this year’s meet was outlined as follows:

Provide major financial support – the value of the sponsorship is over Five Hundred & Fifty Thousand Dollars ($550,000). This will cover various costs associated with the meet including rental of the venue, putting in the necessary infra-structure etc.

Provide Shirts for the Meet Director, Officials and volunteers

Provide the major trophy – The Covenant/Pediasure Trophy

Cari-Med will provide medical supplies for the First Aid Kit.

Cari-Med will also have on show and expose some of our other Top  brands/products that we distribute to support the project

Some of the activities that will help to enhance the experience are:

1)Pediasure Booth for product sampling and tastings

2)The “winning hands down” feature of  Giveaways to lucky patrons attending the meet every hour on the hour (every parent/child attending the meet will get an opportunity)

3)Pediasure Village:  which includes the fun Pediasure Photo booth , our Pediasure Mascot – Rosco, Activities corner with lots of fun kid filled games with prizes and surprises and Dietician/Nutritionist corner where parents can get information on Tips for Picky eaters, healthy lunch box alternatives etc.
