An ominous looking Calabar finally joined the party at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships on day three of the five day championships, but Jamaica College (JC) leads the boys section with 52 points after seven finals. Second is Kingston College (KC) on 38.5 and third is the defending champions Calabar on 27.

Hydel are the surprise leaders of the girls section with 57 points after six events with Edwin Allen poised to pounce on 48 while the defending champions Holmwood are somewhat off the pace on 19.

Two more records were broken yesterday; the first came in the high jump for class 3 girls when Shiann Salmon jumped 1.78m to break the old record of 1.77m. The other record was set when Warren Barrett of Cornwall College demolished the old record of 17.41m when he threw the shot put 18.18m to win the class 2 boys event.

The performances in the semifinals of the 200m for boys in both class 2 and class 1 caused quite a stir inside the national stadium last night and the finals of these events will surely be sensational on Saturday.

The 100m finals will close the show tonight as the excitement builds towards another fantastic climax.
