Jamaica Secure Semi-final Berth in WICB/NAGICO Super 50

2012 Champions Jamaica secured the first semi-final spot in the 2014 WICB Nagico Super 50 Tournament last night. This after a comfortable 6 wicket win against a below par Ireland at the Queens Park Oval.

Batting first, the Irish were restricted to 161 all-out from 46.1 overs with man of the match Andre Russell returning impressive figures of 3-19. 

 

Part time off-spinner, Tamar Lambert, bagged 2 for 27 and former West Indies pacer Jerome Taylor made his return from injury, picking up 3 for 34.

Opener John Campbell top scored with a stroke filled 71 to steer Jamaica to the winning target. He got supporting knocks of 17 from fellow opener Horace Miller, 22 from Nkrumah Bonner and 27 from Tamar Lambert.

 

Campbell struck six fours and two sixes to carry his side to within eight runs of the target before he was bowled. Andre Russell then hit back to back sixes to seal Jamaica’s emphatic win, earning them a bonus point.

 

Captain David Bernard Jr.in his post-match assessment, noted that there is still room for improvement.

Jamaica will next face Guyana on Saturday to round out their zone A 1st round fixtures.
