It’s early days yet, but the battle for 2014 champion jockey is already etched in the minds of Jamaica’s top jockeys. Many times champion jockeys Dane Nelson, Omar Walker, and Dick Cardenas are already out the gate with two wins each on the first day of the 2014 season.

Still high from being crowned 2014 champion jockey, Nelson is expected to feature in 9 of the 10 card races on Saturday. Walker and Cardenas have secured 8 and 5 rides respectively.

All three jockeys will be aboard some of the ante-post race favorites’- they will be featured in competitive rides, but indication by trackers is showing that Nelson is expected to have the upper hand in winning or placing ahead of the two. It should be a close fight in race number 3 over 1100 meters, with Nelson aboard 9-5 chance Lesterae who won convincingly over this distance before, and Walker guiding Burning Medic’s  5-2 chance.

Another interesting battle will be in race number 4 with Walker, Nelson and Trevor Simpson aboard three of the favourites. Nelson again is expected to edge out the others with race favourite the lovely looking filly, Raise Your Voice with odds of 6-5, to Walker’s 7-5 Rules of the Cat and Simpson’s Thekidisnotmyson at 9-5. In race number 5 Cardenas is given the edge over Nelson aboard 1-1 chance Country Train. Nelson will be aboard Hawkeye at 5-2.
