Cayman boxers arrive for Treasure Beach fight card

Four Cayman boxers and two coaches arrived in the island this morning ahead of Saturday’s fight card in Treasure Beach against four Jamaican boxers.

Four Cayman boxers and two coaches arrived in the island this morning ahead of Saturday’s fight card in Treasure Beach against four Jamaican boxers.

 

 The coaches and all four boxers who spoke to the media at the Norman Manley International Airport on their arrival were very confident that they were capable of winning their fights.  The coaches – Norman Wilson and Nayon Anglin said that the boxers were in serious training prior to coming here and were ready to take on the Jamaicans.  They said that the last time they were here they taught the Jamaicans a lesson and they were back to continue the lessons.

 

The four Caymanian boxers are Tafari Ebanks, Hopkins Ebanks, Diego Rodriquez and Bruce Lee.

 

Tafari Ebankz who has a 24/7 fight history is coming here for the second time.  The first time he fought Toriano Nicholas of Tiger Gym whom he defeated narrowly on points.  They will meet again on Saturday.

 

Hopkins Ebanks with a 4/1 record will take on Joshua Forrest Davidson 5/3 of Seaview Gardens Gym.

 

Diego Roderiquez who will be taking to the ring for his first amateur fight will face off with Shimon Gayle of Boys Town who has only one fight under his belt.  He is still looking for his first win.

 

Bruce Lee who boasts a fight history of 11/7 will battle the experienced Michael Gardner of the Stanley Couch Gym. Gardener who is anxious to get into the ring has so far won 19 of his 26 fights.

 

President of the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control (JBBC), Stephen ‘Bomber’ Jones who was on hand to meet the boxers, was optimistic that the local boxers would be able to give a good account of themselves.  He said that with next week’s national championships, all the Jamaican boxers had been in training and so were ready to fight.

 

The fight card will take place on Saturday November 23 at the Treasure Beach Sports Park in St. Elizabeth beginning at7:00 pm. 

 

Venue and Serena Williams who will be guests at the fight will host a tennis clinic for approximately thirty kids in the morning starting at 10:00.

 

Sponsors for the fight card are Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, Ting, Breds Foundation, Jack Sprat Restaurant and the Sports Development Foundation are the sponsors of the event.
