Fabian Campbell prevailed over yesterday’s leader Wesley Brown in the pro section of the Alliance Buccaneers Memorial Golf Tournament to dethrone the defending champion.  Campbell shot an even par seventy-two today for a combined two-day score of one under par one hundred and forty-three after yesterday’s seventy-one.  Brown on the other hand shot four over par seventy-six to end the tournament on one hundred and forty-six or two over par overall.

Campbell said that he was more than happy to be crowned the winner of the two-day event especially since this is his first win as a pro. This he did on his second tournament as a pro.  He said he played to plan today and coming close to the end he was a little excited and missed a four-footer on the last hole which would have meant a one under par and another seventy-one today.  He however had no complaints especially since he won ahead of yesterday’s leader Wesley Brown.

Brown on the other hand said that he beat himself today on the course “I struggled today, just could not get anything going, hit the ball awful, I short sighted himself, did not make any put, never have any up and down.  Shooting four over par, I felt like I shot one hundred and ten.  I had some real bad breaks on the tee box.  Teeing off and punching out of the tree roots and then hitting a half decent shot and then just couldn’t make the put.  Fabian played well.  He deserved to win, he’s a good kid and I like him.”

The other category winners were:  Men – Sean Morris ahead of Mark Newnham and John O’Donoghue; Men Senior – Rory Jardine in first while Tommy Lee and Wayne Chai Chong were second and third respectively; Men Super Senior Patrick Gordon won ahead of Dudley Wilson in a play-off while Guyan Arscott copped third.  The Ladies section was similar to yesterday’s position which were Jodi Munn Barrow, Maggie Lyn and Michele Gabay ended in one, two, three respectively.  The Juniors went to Luke Lindo in Under 13, Jordan Lowe in Under 15 and Austin Swaby in the Under 17 section while Kai Harris was the sole female junior.

One hundred and thirty golfers took to the Caymanas Golf Club for the two-day Alliance Buccaneers Memorial Golf Tournament with the first tee time at 6:50 am each day

The two-day format of play featured:  Saturday and Sunday – Medal Play HCP 1-12, Modified Stableford HCP 13-24, Professional, Men, Seniors, Super Seniors, Ladies and Juniors while on Sunday it will be Modified Stableford HCP 10-12, 13-24, 25-36, Men and Ladies.  The Juniors will compete for the Vitoria Marley Trophy.  The Juniors will play in the U17, U15 and U13 age groups.

The tournament featured two different competitions running concurrently.  One was a two-day – 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier while the other which was played on Sunday was a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fund raiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.  The objective for this year is to hand over in excess of the eight hundred thousand dollars which was paid last year.
