Alliance Buccaneers golf tournament tees off today

Over one hundred golfers will take to the course today in the Alliance Buccaneers Memorial two-day Golf Tournament which tees off at the Caymanas Golf Club between 7 am – 1 pm each day.

 According to tournament director David Mais, some of the golfers who will be on the course are:  Pros:  Ewan Peebles, Paul Warren, Wesley Brown and Fabian Campbell; Super Seniors – Gordon Hutchinson (former president of the JGA), Maurice Foster, new category entrants Peter Chin and Teddy Richards; Seniors – Wayne Chai Chong (president of JGA), Robert ‘Bobby’ Chin, Rory Jardine, Gregg Chong and Tommy Lee; Men –  Paul Thompson and Radcliffe Knibbs; Ladies – Jodi Munn Barrow and Maggie Lyn and Juniors – Khai Harris and Tiana Cruz.  Mais also said that the prize money for the pros this year is one hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

 

The tournament features two different competitions running concurrently.  One will be a two-day – 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier while the other to be played on Sunday will be a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fund raiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.  The objective for this year is to hand over in excess of the eight hundred thousand dollars which was paid last year.

 

The format of play features:  Saturday and Sunday – Medal Play HCP 1-12, Modified Stableford HCP 13-24, Professional, Men, Seniors, Super Seniors, Ladies and Juniors while on Sunday it will be Modified Stableford HCP 10-12, 13-24, 25-36, Men and Ladies.  The Juniors will compete for the Vitoria Marley Trophy who died in an accident on a golf course.  The Juniors will play in the U17, U15 and U13 age groups.

 

This year’s competition is the eighteenth staging of the Buccaneers Memorial Tournament, and is being played in the memory of five of Jamaica’s outstanding past national representatives, namely Milton ‘Buddy’ Josephs, Izette Rhone, Lenan Lennie Chin, John Fulford and Al Chong.
