India hold advantage over West Indies on day one at Eden Gardens

The West Indies made a modest score of 234 all out on day one of the first Test match against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata today. In reply India were 37-0 at stumps after facing a total of 12 overs in their first turn at bat.

The first three West Indies batsmen, Chris Gayle (18), Kieran Powell (28) and Darren Bravo (23) all got starts but failed to push on. 

 

Marlon Samuels who batted at number four top scored for the West Indies with 65 and Shiv Chanderpaul was next best with 36.

 

Mohamed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming 4-71 from 17 overs.

 

The batsmen at the wicket for India are, Shikhar Darwan (21) and Murali Vijay (16) and they will resume batting on day 2.
