Milton Samuda stated that the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) cricket matches to be played in August, will only be played in the day; confirming that there will be no flood lights installed for night-time play.

 

Mr.Samudasaid,AsoneofthevenuesfortheCPL,weregretthattherequiredflood lightswillnotbeinstalledat SabinaParkintimeforthe Augustseries,hencetheneedto schedulethesematchesduringtheday. We believe,however,thatthisdelaywillallow us toinstall thelights onmorefavourablefinancial terms.”

 

Hewent on to say that SPHL managesthe physical assetsofSabinaPark,which isjointly ownedby theJamaicaCricket AssociationandKingstonCricketClub.

 

We are,therefore,responsibleforsecuring properlightstofacilitatenightgames and regretthatdespitereceiving four bids fortheproject,andselectingapreferredbidderwho offered100%financing,timedidnotallowforthesuccessfulconclusionofarrangements tomeetourinstallationdeadlineofAugust 5,”Mr.Samudasaid,highlighting that thelights wouldcost approximatelyUS$2,100,000.

 

 

 

Notingthat hewasconfidentthat theGovernment wouldcontinuetolendsupporttothe initiative, seeing he has received backing from the Minister of Sports, the Hon. Natalie Neita- Headley and the Minister of Tourism the Hon. Wykenham McNeil; Mr.Samudastated,Theinstallationofthe floodlights atSabinaParkwill continueto beaggressively pursued,becausethesefloodlightsareessentialtothe executionofSPHL’s new Business Plan, particularlyifSabinaParkistobeconsideredfor selectiontohostinternational andregional cricket.”
