Winless Portmore stuck at the bottom after match-day 3

Boys’ Town registered their first win of the 2013/2014 Red Stripe Premier League season after defeating Cavalier 1-0 in a third-round game at Stadium East yesterday. It was the first defeat for Cavalier for the season, which was inflicted by the boot of midfielder Daemion Benjamin midway the first half. It was a well-taken shot from the edge of the six-yard box that surprised goalkeeper Gariece McPherson.

The defeat for the early leaders was a bitter pill to swallow, but with the season still in its early stages, coach David Lalor was not too alarmed.

Portmore United’s dismal start to the season continued as they sunk to their third consecutive defeat losing 0-1 to the promoted August Town at the UWI Bowl. Kurt Richards slotted home in the 58th minute as August Town registered their first win since returning to the premier league this season. They moved to five points and up to fifth spot. Former champions Portmore United remained the only pointless team and are firmly rooted at the bottom.

Another promoted team Rivoli United also got in the win column with a 1-0 win over Sporting Central Academy at the Juici Patties Park in Clarendon. The prolific Devon Hodges got the winner in the 22nd minute as Spanish Town-based Rivoli are up to seventh place also on five points. Sporting Central which won their first match have now lost two in a row and remained on three points and down to three places to ninth.

Meanwhile Jermaine “Tuffy” Anderson netted in the 79th minute as Waterhouse edged Humble Lion 1-0 at the Effortville Community Centre. Anderson had promised that three games would not pass without him finding the back of the net and he duly delivered on that promise to the delight of the travelling supporters. Waterhouse joins Humble Lion on six points in a three way tie atop of the table with identical goal averages.

The Donovan Duckie-coached Montego Bay United are also on six points following their 1-0 win over champions Harbour View in the late kick-off off at the Compound. Allan Ottey scored the winner in the 67th minute. Harbour View which was losing their second game in three matches, remained in 11th spot on one point in what is expected to be a difficult season for the champions.

In probably the most exciting encounter for the evening at the Edward Seaga Stadium, Tivoli Gardens and Arnett Gardens battled to a 2-2 draw. Kirk Ramsey twice gave Arnett the lead in the 11th and 57th minutes while Jameel Thompson twice pulled Tivoli Gardens level twice.
