Puerto Rico stormed into the semifinal round of the 2013 Caribbean Football Union Women’s Under 17 Tournament, with a clinical 5-0 victory over the still win-less Antigua & Barbuda team.

With this result from Sunday’s early double-header action on Sunday September 22nd at the Sylvio Cator Stadium in Haiti; Puerto Rico will now prepare for a clash with the host nation on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., which will determine the Group A winner.

Puerto Rico took the lead in the 30th minute when Juliana Templeman took advantage of a failed clearance by the Antigua defense in the penalty area from a free-kick by Monica Ocasio. They took a 2-0 lead seven minutes later when Marjorie Martinez connected on a corner kick from Alyssa Rodriguez and squeezed the ball past Shawnisha Hector in the Antigua goal.

Martinez netted her second goal in impressive fashion as she ran down the left side during the extra minute of time added on, making the comeback aspirations of Antigua harder to achieve. The second half proved to be all Puerto Rico as they netted two more goals to complete the victory.

Mariana Lopez- Crespo immediately made her impact as a second half substitute, when she found herself open in the 18-yard box and fired a right footed volley past second string Antiguan goalie Shekea O’garro in the 64th minute. Fabiola Miranda capped off the evening with Puerto Rico’s fifth goal in the 80th minute, as she weaved her way through the vulnerable Antigua defense and easily scored.
