Every younger sibling’s issue!

Even though this is the “big leagues”, boys will be boys and no-one wants to lose to their brother and every little brother (or sister) so wants to have one-up on big bro. The handshake at the end of Sunday’s game was very dignified after Peyton whooped Eli (…again times 2). But couldn’t you almost imagine what the taunting might have been like between them if they were boys on the playground?

Even though this is the “big leagues”, boys will be boys and no-one wants to lose to their brother and every little brother (or sister) so wants to have one-up on big bro. The handshake at the end of Sunday’s game was very dignified after Peyton whooped Eli (…again times 2). But couldn’t you almost imagine what the taunting might have been like between them if they were boys on the playground?

In the first quarter, Eli’s team scored first with a field goal. Then Peyton hit back with a touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter (Peyton: haha gotcha back lil bro!). Giants scored 2 more field goals to take the lead at 9-7 (Eli: got back who??). Then Matt Prater kicked a field goal for the Broncos to go ahead 10-9 into the half (Peyton: field goal, schield goal…we can score those too). Peyton’s team continued their scoring trend, on the other side of the half, when he hit Brady’s old favourite Welker for a TD (Peyton: this is what I do, lil bro).

Brandon Jacobs celebrated his return to the Giants with a 1 yd TD and the Giants were down 1 at 17-16 (Eli: I can throw those too, Peyton). Broncos extended their lead when Knowshon Moreno ran 25yds for a touchdown (Peyton: see? I inspire even the running game, Eli).  Then Peyton hit Julius Thomas to extend the lead to 15 points (Peyton: Look, Eli…the fat lady is warming up). Holliday returned a punt like he was running around cones to further extend the lead to 22 points (Peyton: sing with me – lalalaaaaaa….). Eli then threw a 23 yd TD to Da’rel Scott to pull the lead back down to 15 (Eli: you sound like you did on the DirectTv commercial). Matt Prater sealed the deal with 47yd field goal with 2:38 left on the clock and pushed the score to 41-23 (Peyton: who’s got it? I do! WHO’S GOT IT?? I DO! Eli: MOM!!!!!).

The score, though, belied the fact that Victor Cruz was the rushing leader with 118yds from 8 receptions and that Eli was the passing leader with 362 yds. But Eli was forcing the throw too hard at some spots during the game and threw 4 interceptions from which Denver never scored. Those forced throws could be because the Giants were non-existent with their rushing game moving just 23 yds from 19 plays, Moreno did more than that with fewer attempts!

It takes full team contribution from all 3 parts of the team to win in this league. Even though Eli has 24 4th quarter comebacks (3rd best among active QB’s), Peyton has 38!

So Eli, don’t blame Peyton entirely for the trouncing, let Brandon run some more, be smarter with the ball (I’ve noticed that you’ve noticed) and get Cruz to dance some more in the end-zone. It’s early yet in the season so maybe, just maybe, you could still pull these Giants into the playoffs.  Until then, Peyton’s chores are on you!
