VCB pleased with return to track after long layoff

Jamaican sprint legend Veronica Campbell-Brown returned to the track after more than two and a half years out at the East Coast Invitational Indoor Track and Field meet on Saturday when she competed in the Women’s 60m dash.

Campbell-Brown has been away from the sport since starting her family and was participating in her first competitive event since the birth of her daughter Avianna.

Campbell-Brown ran 7.43s in the heats and returned with an even better time of 7.34s to finish second  in the final which was won by Tamari Davis of the USA.

The 38 year old was pleased with her efforts, acknowledging that there was still a lot of work to be done.

“Two and a half years since I last competed. I returned to competition at the East Coast Invitational with two rounds of 60m,” she said on social media.

“A decent start to my 2021 athletics campaign. There is a lot of work to be done, but I am up for the challenge.”

The two-time 200m Olympic Champion says she will continue to push herself as the Japan Olympic Games loom large.

“I am trusting God every step of the way. He gifted me with potential and I am here to push the limits.”
