Michaela Stephens, at only 13 years old, became Jamaica’s youngest female High Pro All Jamaica Championship winner on Sunday, when she easily disposed of 28 year old Pauline Hylton in a straight set, to claim the women’s singles final, 6-1; 6-1.

Stephens dominated the match from start to finish, racing to a 4-0 lead in set one before Hylton finally got on the board at 4-1. Stephens then expectedly closed out the first set at 6-1.

The second set was even easier for Stephens as Hylton continued to struggle to get her first set in, due in part to strong winds at the venue. With nothing much on Hylton’s second serve, it proved to be meat and drink for the Liberty Academy student who ferociously hammered the ball back at her opponent each time she was presented with the second serve.

Hylton finally got on the board in the second set at 5-1 with Stephens serving for the match, but it was of little consolation as Stephens broke back to win in just over half hour of play.

Damian Johnson claimed his third men’s singles title in four years when he defeated former Jamaica Davis Cup captain, Dwayne Pagan 7-6, 6-4.

Johnson was made to work hard for the win by Pagan, as the first set went to a tie break, before he closed it out at 7-4.

The match seemed headed to a third set after Pagan led the second set at 4-1, but the champion dug deep to win 5 straight points on his way to the championship title.

Stephens also captured the doubles crown when she paired up with Jenna Harrison to defeat the pair of Pauline Hylton and Gina Delisser, while losing male singles finalist Pagan, paired up with Matthew Rodriques to defeat the pair of Cliff Dwyer and Jeremy Miller to lift the Men’s doubles title.
