Hydel Prep school romped to their 11th straight and 17th overall JISA/Tastee National Prep Schools Athletics Championship title on Saturday finishing with a total of 334 points, 188 points more than second placed Mona Prep and 201 more than third placed Vaz Prep.

The emphatic margin of victory was as a result of a very balanced team that scored heavily in each class to help them storm away with the trophy long before the relays began.

Beginning day three with a five points lead over Mona, Hydel streaked away from the pack, adding to their lead after virtually every race on the track and event in the field.

The impressive Adrian Kerr won the Class One Boys 100M/200M sprint double which was emulated by his teammate Arianna Golding in the female sprints. The Corey Bennett coached team also won 7 of the 10 contested relays in a dominant display inside the National Stadium.

While Hydel was dominating in almost every area, the impressive Gary Card of Ardenne Prep continued to write his name in the record books. He again broke the Class Two Boys 60m record he set in the semi-final, lowering the time to 8.37 seconds. He also won gold in the 100m to cap a fine double at the championships in his first year at Class 2.

Mona’s Nando Meggs, who had a heavy work load for his school, earned for himself the title of Class One Champion boy as he took home gold in the long jump and 400m while finishing runner up to Kerr in the 200m.

Jounee Armstrong of Vaz Prep claimed the title of Class Two champion girl despite being disqualified in the 100m final as she took gold in the 150m and the long jump.

Mona Prep had an all round good championship to break up the Hydel/Vaz top two for the first time in years as they scored 146 to finish second compared to the 133 of Vaz Prep. The resurgent Wolmer’s Prep finished fourth, one better than last year, after being the only other school to finish with triple figures – amassing 101.5 points. Emmanuel Christian Academy rounded out the top five with 83 points.
