Calabar High school sprinter Tyreke Wilson is working overtime to convert the two silver medals he won at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championship in 2015, to two gold medals in 2016.

Faced with the same opposition that relegated him to two runner up spots last year, teammates, Class Two 100m champion Dejour Russell and 200m champion Christopher Taylor, he is still positive that his fortunes will change when the championships get underway in a few weeks.

“The plan to convert the two silver medals I won two gold medals, with hard work and smart work that will make anything possible.”

When asked about taking the top spots from his teammates he thinks the one who gives the better showing at Champs will be on top come this year.

“Both guys are my training partners, and I know that they train hard, just like I do, so time will tell come Champs 2016,” he noted.

The ultimate goal for Wilson however is to help Calabar retain their crown once more, and secondary to that is closing Class Two with triple success.

“We have a very balanced team and we are doing well leading up to champs. Calabar is unbeaten. And I am confident we can repeat as champions in 2016.Apart from that I want to say at the end of Champs that I have achieved three gold medals,” he revealed.

There are talks of an even greater challenge from perennial rivals Kingston College, who are seeking to wrestle the title away from the Red Hills based unit, but Wilson is not perturbed by those talks.

“I am not sure we will pass the score that we made last year, but am I sure no other school can challenge us to the title this year. So my advice to Kingston College is try again next year,” he boasted.

Just like a number of junior athletes eyeing the upcoming World Junior Championship to be held in July 2016, Wilson is confident of a spot on the plane to Bydgoszcz, Poland.

“I am looking forward to the World Juniors and definitely Tyreke will make the team to the Championship,” he stated emphatically.

Another tight battle can be expected at Champs 2016, with the most likely destination for the Mortimer Geddes Trophy being where it now resides at Red Hills Road.
