One of Jamaica’s leading schools in high school sports, Kingston College, is set to gain a competitive advantage over many of their rivals through the free use of one of the island’s best equipped gym’s, Express Fitness 24/7.

An agreement was reached between the owner and CEO of the Express Fitness, Mr. Ansel Clarke and the principal of Kingston College, Mr. Dave Myrie last Friday, which will see all the sporting teams at the institution having access to the facility.

Clarke, himself an Old Boy, of the 90 year old institution was happy to play his part in giving back to his beloved alma mater.

“I am very happy to open up my company, Express Fitness 24/7 to the Kingston College family and I am looking forward to great things from them, from the basketball players, from the sprinters, from the soccer players. I am really excited to be a part of the program and my team and I will be doing everything we can to make sure we get the best results out of our young upcoming athletes,” Clarke said.

An overjoyed Myrie, was very thankful for the opportunity afforded to KC.

“First I want to thank Express Fitness and Ansel Clarke, KC Old Boy, for this initiative, for making his gyms available to KC for training. As you all know, weights programme and fitness training is a significant part of any programme, in fact it’s the bedrock of any sports programme, its fitness training and particularly weights.”

The initiative is set to have a significant impact on the school population as the principal explained.

“We have a number of teams in Kingston College; we enter nearly all competitions here and we have a very, very small gym that is unable to cater for all the various teams we have in training so this initiative is a significant one for us. We see this as having a significant impact on the school, on the various programmes, on the competitions and on the performance of our youngsters,” he continued.

The athletes from KC will not only benefit from the use of the facilities but also the expertise of the qualified trainers that work at the various outlets that they have at their disposal.

“In addition to our coaches being involved and going down there, the trainers at the gym are also going to be involved as well, which is going to be a tremendous benefit to us because we are getting experienced persons to assist and to help us in the development of our track and field programme.

“ This speaks to the “Fortis Spirit”, always giving back and so again we thank Express Fitness because as a KC Old Boy he saw it fit to give back to KC, he didn’t have to but it is what is engendered in a KC Old Boy, give back and help the school. We appreciate this and we are going to make every use of it…when we lift the (Champs) trophy we will call him so he will be there to actually help us to accept,” Myrie joked.

Express Fitness 24/7 currently has seven locations across the island, all of which are available to all members any time of day.
